
Buy an ice-cream and sit on the beach, maybe make some sand castles with the children and watch the waves crashing in or be adventurous and go for a swim, or have a lie in the sun, make sure you wear a hat and put on your sunscreen. Sumner has a great Estuary a few minutes drive from Sumner. It is great for the people who enjoy windsurfing.
Enjoy walking around the hills of Sumner and the peace and tranquility of the beach.
There are also plenty of mountain bike tracks to enjoy. Ask your hosts, Roydon or Chris for the use of the mountain bikes.
The “Christchurch Grand Tour” Bus stops right outside SUMNER RE TREAT. It travels past the Estuary into the city, around Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens then on to Mona Vale, which is a beautiful old Stately Home, next to the Christchurch Museum which is in the Center of our lovely city, then travels on to SUMNER RE TREAT.
“Ferrymead Heritage Park” and the Tamaki Old Christchurch town. Take a trip back in time and see how the locals of Canterbury used to live. There is steam train for the train enthusiasts to go for a ride on.
Take a short car journey or bus ride through the road tunnel to the port of Lyttelton and go on the “Black Cat Nature Cruises”
Every Saturday Lyttelton has a Farmers Market 10am – 1pm and another Farmers Market at Mt Pleasant.
The “Botanic Gardens” is a beautiful area to spend the day. The gardens are gorgeous, smell and admire the beautiful roses, take a picnic and enjoy spending some time in the children’s playground and padding pool area or find a nice quiet place to sit on a rug by the Avon River and enjoy a picnic and glass of wine.
You can go for a row down the Avon River.
Christchurch also has 3 very large shopping centers. You can catch “THE ORBITER” bus and spend the day visiting the centers, WESTFIELD RICCARTON, NORTHLANDS and THE PALMS. There is always a bargain to find and shopping to do and lunch to have in the Food Court.
